How To Make your own Wallpapered Canvas

Tools you need:

What to do:

  • Make up your required quantity of wallpaper paste (GP100 Shurstik, Metylan Special or LB100 Bartoline Powder) N.B Use only these types of paste. Some other types that are not made for wallcoverings are too strong and may stain and crease the wallpaper.
  • Measure and cut enough wallpaper to cover the full canvas length plus a bit extra to wrap around each end.
  • Roll or brush a generous amount of paste onto the canvas surface. Do not paste the sides yet.
  • Lay wallcovering with pattern side down on table or other hard surface. You will now be looking at the back of the paper.
  • Carefully postition pasted canvas ONTO PAPER applying slight pressure.
  • Turn canvas over and smooth out any air bubbles with a smoother or laybrush.
  • Once smooth and firm to canvas surface, gently turn it back over pattern side down, to paste the ends with a brush.
  • Fold ends firmly around and use staple gun to assist adhesion. Staple only on the back of canvas.
  • Now paste the sides and fold a neat corner envelope style at each corner (as you would wrapping a present) Use staple gun to make corner adhesion firm. Wipe away an excess paste from surface and edges with damp sponge.
  • Allow to dry
  • If using paintable wallpapers then you can now paint in your chosen paint finish and colour.
