Hanging Instructions

HP PVC-free Wallpaper is a Pre-pasted wallcovering designed to be hung easily and removed cleanly.
Wallpaper hanging and subsequent removal is facilitated by preparing the wall surface properly prior to hanging. Ensure that the wall surface is clean (free of grease, mildew, dust, and other debris) and smooth with the appropriate primer and paint.

Preparation

Hanging over Dry Wall:
For best results the dry wall should have a coat of acrylic sealer undercoat and one coat of latex paint. Typically, new construction will have a coat of each on the dry wall. Be sure the treated wall is free from surface dirt and other contaminates. Hanging over satin and gloss paint or a single coat of primer is permissible.

Hanging over Paint:

Test the wall to be sure that the paint adhesion is strong. There are a variety of methods to test for the quality of adhesion. All painted walls should be sanded and sized using a latex size before hanging wallpaper and free from debris.

Hanging over walls previously covered in Wallpaper:

Remove all adhesive from the wall by sanding and sugar soaping. For best results remove any remnant of the previous wallcovering. If this is not possible call us to discuss your options. Prime the wall prior to wallcovering installation.

Hanging over Paneling:

Fill all grooves to make the surface smooth and uniform. Prime with a primer that promotes adhesion e.g Zinsser Cover Stain. A wall liner may also be applied to make the surface uniform.

Hanging over Wallpaper:

This is not recommended as the wide variety of wallcoverings and their surface treatments make selection of a primer difficult to select. Please call us to discuss this option so we can assess your situation.

Hanging / Application:

1. Check all pieces of mural to ensure no faults are evident
2. Roll one strip loosely with the printed / design side in.
3. Place the rolled strip in a water trough long enough to fully wet the strip and activate the pre-paste, approximately 10-15 seconds.
4. Extract the roll pulling the leading edge out of the trough slowly to ensure the paste is fully wetted and activated.
5. “Book” the sheet by folding the pasted side of the paper back against itself bringing the paste in contact with itself. For best results allow the sheet to remain “booked” for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Do not crease the paper when folding. The “booking:” process allows the sheet to relax prior to installation.

Position the mural piece into place and gently smooth out bubbles with a wallpaper smoother. Use a sponge to wipe any excess water and glue away from the surface. Do not be alarmed if you see smaller bubbles appear as the wallpaper is drying. This is a natural occurance and as the wallpaper dries these bubbles generally disappear as the wallpaper tightens. Larger circular shaped bubbles must be removed however. For all hanging tools visit this page

Note:
HP PVC-free Wallpaper is designed to hang and strip easily due to the synergistic design of both the pre-paste and the base sheet. “Paste-the-wall” application systems are not recommended.
With some images and printing profiles there may be a small layer of excess ink on your print. Do not be alarmed if a small amount of ink washes away during installation. This is okay and will not damage the quality of the installed graphic. Just be sure to wipe away the excess ink before allowing the wallpaper to dry.
