Removable Wall Stickers Instructions and Application

Questions

Instructions

Decorating with removable stickers, borders and murals is Fast, Easy and Fun.

Each manufacturer supplies slightly different instructions that are supplied with the product and handing is basically the same for most removable products.

Make sure the surface is clean, peel from backing and stick. Yes that easy.

Avoid hanging on freshly painted walls.

Preparation

  • Ensure the surface is clean, smooth and dry.
  • Use a slightly damp sponge or cloth to remove any dust etc.
  • Or wash with sugar soap and rinse for older surfaces.
  • Newly painted walls should be left for at least 3 weeks to completely dry.

Peel from backing

  • For stickers, carefully peel each sticker from the backing sheet or commence peeling the border from the sheet.

Position & stick

  • Position and apply stickers to the desired location. Smooth onto the surface with a soft cloth.
  • For borders rule straight line for the bottom edge where you wish to hang the border.
  • Position the first piece matching the bottom edge to the line drawn.
  • Apply firmly onto surface.
  • Continue pulling off the backing and applying to the wall.
  • Smooth with a soft cloth.
  • To join another roll let the second roll overlap matching the pattern design and remove the excess by placing a ruler or straight edge so that is runs vertically on a section where the border overlaps.
  • With a sharp cutter knife, cut along the rule, applying enough pressure to cut through both strips. Remove the excess paper on top and underneath.

Removal

  • To remove or reposition simply peel slowly from surface.

Why don't my removable stickers or borders stick?

The following has been supplied by one of our suppliers so we are including it here so that you avoid problems with the sticking up of your stickers and other removable borders. It also gives useful help for permanent self adhesive products.

Be assured we have not had problems with our products quality however as we have been given the information we decided to pass it on to customers so that customers can avoid creating problems themselves. Occasionally some customers have problems with some stickers not sticking to their walls. Problems with not sticking are typically related to the wall surface itself or if the wall is not prepared properly rather than the actual borders or stickers. There are number of other events that can interfere with the adhesion of these borders or  stickers:

  • If you have recently repainted the wall, you need to wait about three weeks, especially in winter as paint drying time increases, before you can put anything on to the surface. This is because the drying process of paint is really evaporation of the solvents in the paint itself. These solvents will find their way into the adhesive on the stickers and render the "stick" ineffective.
  • The manufacturers recommend cleaning of walls before sticking up the product, we suggest you use a product like sugar soap or something similar to get rid of the grime that builds up over time in even the cleanest of households. Then all of the soap must be cleaned and rinsed away.
  • Make sure it is really dry & dust free before applying stickers.
  • Another problem is trying to put stickers on to painted surfaces which have "Teflon", "silicone" or similar additives to make them "wash and wear". Quite properly, these paints have been designed for things not to stick to them to make them easy to clean.
  • Apparently if you perhaps you have "polyurethaned" the floor in the room recently this can cause a problem. Once again, the process for this drying is very slow (sometimes three months). The fumes that come off the floor are the solvents which will affect the adhesive in the stickers.
  • Some customers have reported problems with concrete, cement and rendered walls. Also suede effects and other rough surface paints do not allow sufficient surface area to stick to the wall.
  • There are cases when little fingers kept removing and putting back the sticker so the adhesive just lost stickiness and got dirty.
  • Or occasionally the stickers are not pressed on hard enough.

·         It is also recommended that you lay the stickers flat under a phone book or similar for 24 hours.

·         It is recommended that you leave doors open in very hot weather as very hot rooms will soften the adhesive.
